Police in Vihiga County have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified teenage girl was found in a bush near River Mutiko in Emutenga Village, Sibakala Sub-location, Ipali Location.
The body was discovered on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at about 8:30pm after police received a report from members of the public.
Officers from Embali Police Station visited the scene and found the body of an African female juvenile, estimated to be about 17 years old, lying in a bush.
According to the police report, a manila rope had been tied tightly around the girl’s neck. There were no visible external injuries on the body, which had already started decomposing.
Police processed the scene before removing the body to the Vihiga Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a postmortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding the girl’s death remain unclear, and police have classified the incident as a suspected murder as investigations continue.
And a 20-year-old man died after an artisanal mining tunnel collapsed on him in Kanyuto Village, East Gem Location, Siaya County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at around 5pm while the man was working inside the mining tunnel.
Police identified the victim as Paul Opiyo, who was aged about 20 years.
According to police, the walls of the tunnel suddenly collapsed, trapping Opiyo inside.
Members of the public managed to retrieve his body from the collapsed tunnel before police officers from Yala Police Station arrived at the scene.
Police processed the scene and established that the body had no visible external injuries.
The body was later moved to the Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
