Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are investigating a suspected murder after a 13-year-old boy was found dead inside his family home under unclear circumstances.
According to the police, the incident came to light after the boy’s grandmother received a distress call from her daughter informing her that her grandson had collapsed and lost consciousness on Friday.
The deceased, a Grade Seven pupil at Matopeni Primary School who reportedly suffered from epilepsy, had allegedly fallen unconscious at around 1 pm and never regained consciousness.
The grandmother rushed to the house and found the boy lying naked on a carpet in the sitting room. His nine-year-old brother was attempting to administer first aid.
Police said the two boys had been left under the care of their 19-year-old sister. However, she was missing from the house by the time relatives arrived. She had reportedly left behind her mobile phone after contacting the children’s aunt.
The boy was rushed to Ruiru Level 4 Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival. Medical personnel reportedly observed marks on his neck suggesting possible strangulation.
The body was moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home awaiting postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Sololo, Marsabit County, are investigating a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of a man following an attack by armed assailants along the Uran Lataka–Uran Dida footpath.
According to a report filed at Sololo Police Station on Friday at around 4:13 pm, the incident occurred on the night of May 7, 2026 at about 10 pm.
The incident involved a witness and the deceased identified as Guyo Wako Jaldesa, who were riding on a motorcycle.
The two were allegedly confronted by three armed men.
Police said the suspects opened fire at the victims, fatally injuring Jaldesa, who sustained a gunshot wound to the pelvis.
The injured man was rushed to Sololo Level IV Hospital. Afterwarsd, he was referred to Moyale Sub-County Hospital for specialized treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on May 8 at around 6 pm while receiving treatment.
The body was buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Police have launched investigations into the motive behind the shooting and efforts to trace the suspects are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a three-year-old girl died following a fire incident that razed a 12-room Swahili house in Kisimani area, Kambi ya Moto, Nyali Sub-county in Mombasa County.
According to the police, the fire had engulfed a 12-room residential Swahili house belonging to a man identified as Emmanuel.
The Mombasa County fire brigade, assisted by members of the public, managed to contain and extinguish the fire.
During the incident, a three-year-old girl, daughter of one of the tenants, sustained fatal injuries and died.
Her body was moved to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending further procedures.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate the fire may have been caused by a gas explosion, although investigations are still ongoing.
The value of property destroyed in the inferno had not been established by the time of the report.
