Bungoma man killed after quarrel with employer over sale of goods

Police in Bungoma have launched a manhunt for a workshop owner accused of fatally assaulting his employee following a quarrel over the sale of goods.

The incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, at a workshop in Khalaba Sub-Location, Township Location, Bungoma South Sub-County.

Police received a report that a body lying at the workshop belonging to Pastor Robert Ochoko Opto, who is the suspect.

A team visited the scene and confirmed the death.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased, identified as John Wanjala, aged about 30, was an employee at the workshop.

Police said Wanjala had reportedly disagreed with his employer over the sale of goods, including sofa sets, wall units and other items stocked at the workshop.

The disagreement allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the suspect is accused of assaulting Wanjala with crude weapons.

Wanjala sustained multiple injuries, which police suspect were inflicted using a blunt object, and later succumbed to the injuries.

After the incident, the suspect allegedly fled the scene and remained at large as police launched a search for him.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing and are pursuing the suspect.

Meanwhile, police in Siaya have launched investigations after a mutilated female body was discovered in a bush near Kowet Shopping Centre in Nyamila Sub-Location.

The discovery was reported on Monday, September 21, 2026, at about 3:39pm after members of the public spotted suspected human body parts in the bush.

Police officers from Kowet Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Siaya Sub-County, visited the scene.

The officers found the mutilated body of an unidentified woman in the bush. The body was missing both hands and a left limb, while the skull was discovered about 50 metres away from the rest of the remains.

The body parts were collected and placed in a body bag before being transported to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.

CSI officers processed and documented the scene as detectives began investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and circumstances surrounding her death.

Preliminary inquiries indicated that the woman was not known in the area, while police said no missing person had been reported in the locality in recent months.

The remains are being preserved at the mortuary pending a postmortem examination and efforts to establish the woman’s identity.

Detectives are also expected to investigate whether the remains could be linked to a missing person report from outside the area.
