Police are investigating an incident where a businessman was robbed of Sh835,000 after he had left two different banks in Nyali, Mombasa County.
The thieves broke into his car and grabbed the cash after trailing him from the two banks. He withdrew Sh635,000 from one of the banks and Sh200,000 from another.
He told police the robbery happened on January 10 at the Epic Business Park at about 1 pm. He had been to the local Equity Bank and Absa Bank. The thieves are believed to have trailed him from the banks to the scene where he had parked his car and left for errands. They then broke into the car and grabbed the cash before escaping.
Police said they are investigating the incident and that they were reviewing security footage that may have captured the crime.
This comes a day after another businessman was robbed of Sh900,000 in Narok Town in similar circumstances.
The victim told police he had traveled from Nairobi to Narok where he has a construction project while carrying the money in a brown envelope. He had withdrawn the money from a bank in Nairobi.
The incident happened on Friday afternoon.
On reaching Narok Town, he parked his Probox car in the Muthurwa area and walked to the site.
He came back about 30 minutes later and found his car had been broken into and the envelope which had the cash and a mobile phone were missing.
Police were informed and visited the scene as part of the investigations into the incident. Police suspect the thieves had prior information on the movement of the cash. A hunt for the gang continued on Saturday.
Police visited premises near the site to review security cameras to see if they could identify the suspects behind the incident.
Elsewhere in Ganjoni, Mombasa County, a woman lost Sh600,000 and jewelry in a house breaking incident. The woman told police she had left for work and left her house locked.
She came back and found the house broken into and the Sh600,000 in cash with jewelry valued at Sh500,000 missing.
Police visited the scene and announced investigations were ongoing to establish what happened.
