Butula campus officially handover to MMUST to boost higher education in Busia County


The Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, together with Arthur Osiya, Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, and Prof. Solomon Shibairo, Vice Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), officially witnessed the handover of Butula Campus to MMUST in Butula, Busia County.

The ceremony culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating the development of learning facilities and establishing the campus as a fully-fledged institution.

Dr. Inyangala highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, This handover marks a major milestone in expanding access to university education in Busia County and Butula Constituency. It will also contribute to socio-economic growth by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”

Prof. Shibairo emphasized the university’s commitment, stating, MMUST is dedicated to leveraging its core areas of study to drive skills development, ensuring the campus becomes a hub for innovation, learning, and community growth.”

The State Department for Higher Education affirmed its continued support for strategic partnerships that will strengthen the institution and provide opportunities for Kenyan students, enhancing both educational and economic outcomes.
