TikTok allows users to manage their direct messages (DMs) with various options for deleting individual messages or entire conversations. However, the platform has specific limitations and guidelines regarding message deletion.
Deleting Individual Messages
To delete a single message in a conversation, press and hold the message you want to remove. A menu will appear with options such as “Delete for me” or “Delete for everyone.” If you select “Delete for me,” the message will be removed from your view only, but the other person can still see it. If you choose “Delete for everyone,” the message will disappear from both your chat and the recipient’s. This option is only available for a short time after the message is sent.
Deleting Entire Conversations
If you’d like to remove a whole chat, go to your inbox and find the conversation. On most devices, you can swipe left on the chat or press and hold it, then choose “Delete” to remove it from your inbox. Keep in mind that this will not delete the conversation from the other person’s inbox — it only clears it from yours.
Limitations and Considerations
TikTok does not provide a feature to delete all messages across all chats at once. You must remove them one by one. Also, once a message is deleted, it cannot be recovered. It’s important to be sure before deleting any content, especially if it includes valuable information.
