TikTok is one of the most engaging social media platforms today, allowing users to share short videos and interact with their audiences through likes, shares, and comments. While comments can foster community and meaningful discussions, not all feedback is positive. Sometimes, you may want to hide or limit comments to avoid negativity, harassment, or spam. The good news is that TikTok offers several tools to help you control your comment section.
Hiding Individual Comments
If you see a comment on your video that you don’t want other people to view, you can remove it directly. To do this, press and hold the comment you want to hide, then select “Delete.” Once removed, the comment will no longer be visible to you or other viewers. However, TikTok doesn’t have a “hide from public” option for individual comments — it’s either visible or deleted.
Restricting Who Can Comment
TikTok allows you to set who can comment on your videos. You can choose to allow comments from:
- Everyone
- Friends (people you follow who also follow you)
- No one
To adjust these settings, go to Profile > Menu (three lines) > Settings and Privacy > Privacy > Comments. Here, you can control who has the ability to interact with your content through comments.
Filtering Comments Automatically
One of TikTok’s most useful features is its comment filter. You can turn on filters to automatically hide comments containing specific keywords you choose. This way, you can prevent inappropriate language, harassment, or unwanted topics from appearing under your videos. To activate it, navigate to Settings and Privacy > Privacy > Comments > Filter Keywords, then enter the words or phrases you want to block.
Reviewing Comments Before They’re Public
TikTok also offers a setting that lets you review comments before they appear publicly. When enabled, all comments will be held for your approval, allowing you to decide which ones are visible and which ones to discard. This feature is ideal for creators who want full control over their community interactions.
