Detectives arrest two suspects, bust fake health facilities in Kawangware

Detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU), working alongside officers from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), have dismantled an illegal medical facility operating in Kawangware, Dagoretti, in a renewed crackdown on unlicensed health centres in Nairobi.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects in the Congo area of Kawangware.

They include Olima Bramwel Douglas, identified as the owner of Dowamed Medicare Centre, and his alleged accomplice, Francisca Otieno Omondi.

Investigators say the duo was running a medical facility without the required approvals, exposing unsuspecting patients to serious health risks.

According to authorities, Douglas is accused of operating an unlicensed health institution, while Omondi is alleged to have been practising in a facility that lacked legal authorization.

They are expected to face charges under Sections 15(1) and 22(5) of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act, CAP 253, Laws of Kenya, offences that attract stiff penalties.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation underscores its commitment, in partnership with KMPDC, to dismantling quack medical operations and safeguarding public health.

Authorities have warned members of the public to remain vigilant and verify the licensing status of health facilities, as nationwide crackdowns against illegal medical practices continue.
