Devastating Fire Destroys Dozens Of Rental Homes On Outskirts Of Nyahururu Town

A devastating fire broke out on the outskirts of Nyahururu Town in Manguo, Laikipia County, on Monday, January 20, leaving dozens of rental homes destroyed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began in one house before rapidly spreading to neighboring structures, though the exact cause remains unclear.

As the flames engulfed the wooden houses, residents worked frantically to salvage what belongings they could, but many were unable to save anything.

Amid the chaos, some individuals took advantage of the situation, stealing from the affected households.

Initial investigations suggest the fire may have been sparked by a candle in one of the homes, which ignited and spread quickly throughout the area.

However, the response from local fire services was hindered when the Nyahururu fire truck ran out of water, leaving residents frustrated and angry.

Many criticized the fire department for arriving too late and without the necessary resources to contain the blaze.

Residents also voiced their disappointment with the Laikipia County Government, accusing them of neglecting the area’s emergency preparedness.

They are now calling for an additional fire engine to be stationed in Manguo to ensure more efficient responses to future emergencies.

The fire has left countless families without shelter, with property losses still being assessed.

Laikipia Senator John Kinyua visited the scene, offering condolences to the affected residents while condemning the lack of readiness from the county government.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fire department’s failure to act swiftly and effectively.

In the aftermath of the fire, residents have appealed for assistance from well-wishers and the county government, urging immediate support to help them rebuild their homes and lives.
