Mugithi musician Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo, has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to officially clear his name following fresh court evidence that appeared to exonerate him from any involvement in the death of Geoffrey ‘Jeff’ Mwathi.
The artist, who had been widely linked to the 2023 death of the 23-year-old interior designer, is now seeking public vindication after a key witness presented CCTV footage showing that he was not present at the scene when Mwathi allegedly fell to his death.
Court Told DJ Fatxo Was Not at Scene During Fatal Incident
During a hearing before Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Chief Inspector Timothy Bett, a CCTV expert attached to the DCI, tendered video evidence detailing the events leading up to Mwathi’s death at Redwood Apartments, near Safari Park Estate in Nairobi.

The footage presented in court showed DJ Fatxo, Mwathi, and three women arriving at the building at 3:32 a.m. on February 22, 2023, before taking the lift to the 10th floor, where Fatxo’s apartment is located.
At 4:48 a.m., CCTV captured the Mugithi singer leaving the apartment with the three women. Moments later, at 5:02 a.m., another camera recorded their vehicle exiting the premises.
Inspector Bett told the court that at 5:47 a.m., approximately 45 minutes after Fatxo and his companions had left, a camera in the parking lot captured Mwathi’s fatal fall from the 12th floor.
“The camera at the parking area captured someone falling down on the ground floor at 05:47:18,” Inspector Bett testified, describing the footage as showing a “split-second fall” with the victim’s arms and legs outstretched.
Additional footage showed DJ Fatxo returning to the scene around 9:05 a.m., walking towards the courtyard where Mwathi’s body lay, by then covered with cartons.
The new evidence appeared to corroborate the musician’s longstanding claim that he was not involved in Mwathi’s death.
DJ Fatxo Appeals to DCI to Restore His Reputation
Following the revelations in court, DJ Fatxo took to social media on Friday, October 24, to express frustration that the DCI has yet to publicly clear his name despite the emerging evidence.
He accused the agency of neglecting to address the public narrative that, he says, unfairly destroyed his brand, cost him business opportunities, and caused immense emotional distress.
“When I asked the DCI back in 2023 why they hadn’t explained my innocence to save my brand, they said they don’t owe any explanation to the public and I should wait for court proceedings,” Fatxo wrote.
“Two years of instant death and stagnation on my brand, so much loss, pain, trolling, sickness, and depression. But I thank God that the truth is unfolding, even without my knowledge. In a court of law, there are no emotions, only facts and evidence,” he added.
He ended his statement with optimism, adding hashtags such as #BornOfTheStorm, #TimeForTruth, and #FreedomIsComing.
Public Reaction
Fatxo’s post drew a wave of reactions from his followers and members of the public, many of whom urged him to stay strong as the truth continues to surface.
Others called on the DCI to make an official statement clearing his name, saying it was the right thing to do after the new evidence came to light.

Jeff Mwathi’s Controversial Death
Jeff Mwathi, a young interior designer and businessman, died in February 2023 after reportedly falling from the 12th floor of DJ Fatxo’s apartment building. His death sparked national outrage, with many Kenyans calling for justice and transparency in the investigations.
Although early speculation suggested suicide, Mwathi’s family, led by his mother, disputed the claim, leading to extensive investigations and a public inquest.
With the latest court revelations, attention now shifts to whether the DCI will issue a formal communication on DJ Fatxo’s clearance, bringing closure to a case that has gripped Kenyans for nearly two years.
