Does TikTok tell people when I view their profile?

Many TikTok users browse profiles out of curiosity and then wonder: does TikTok tell people when I view their profile? Whether you’re checking out a creator, looking at a friend’s account, or exploring public profiles, understanding how TikTok’s profile view system works can help you manage your privacy.

The short answer is: sometimes. TikTok does not send a direct notification when you view someone’s profile, but under certain conditions, your profile visit may appear in their Profile View History.

Does TikTok Send a Notification for Profile Views?

No.

TikTok does not send push notifications, pop-up alerts, or messages saying that you viewed someone’s profile. The account owner will not receive an immediate notification that you visited their page.

However, that does not necessarily mean your visit is invisible.

What Is Profile View History?

Profile View History is a TikTok feature that allows eligible users to see who visited their profile within the last 30 days. The feature is optional and is turned off by default.

When Profile View History is enabled:

  • You can see certain users who visited your profile.
  • Other users can see when you visit their profiles.
  • Profile visits can remain visible for up to 30 days.

When Can Someone See That You Viewed Their Profile?

A person may be able to see your profile visit if:

  • You have Profile View History turned on.
  • They have Profile View History turned on.
  • Both accounts are eligible for the feature.

If these conditions are met, your username may appear in their Profile View History list.

When Can’t Someone See That You Viewed Their Profile?

Generally, your visit will not appear if:

  • You have Profile View History turned off.
  • They have Profile View History turned off.
  • One of the accounts is not eligible for the feature.
  • You view content without actually visiting the profile page.

In these situations, your profile visit is typically not recorded through TikTok’s profile-view system.

How to Turn Off Profile View History

If you prefer more private browsing, you can disable the feature.

Steps to Turn It Off

  1. Open TikTok.
  2. Go to your profile.
  3. Tap the menu icon.
  4. Select Settings and Privacy.
  5. Tap Privacy.
  6. Select Profile Views.
  7. Turn Profile View History off.

Once disabled, you generally won’t appear in other users’ Profile View History lists, and you also won’t be able to see who visited your profile.

Does Watching Videos Count as a Profile View?

No.

Watching someone’s videos is different from visiting their profile. TikTok does not provide creators with a list of people who watched their regular videos. Creators can see view counts and analytics, but not the usernames of individual video viewers.

Does a Private TikTok Account Hide Profile Visits?

No.

Making your account private controls who can view your content, but it does not automatically hide your profile visits. Profile visibility and Profile View History are separate settings.
