South African fitness trainer Nkululeko Dlamini, popularly known as King of Squats, recently suffered a major blow after the Burkina Faso government cancelled his highly anticipated event just days before the D-Day.
This writer understands the government announced its decision shortly before the event, which was slated for November 8, 2025.
Nairobi News has learnt that Burkinabé authorities abruptly cancelled the fitness event hosted by King of Squats, and they were gracious enough to share their reasons behind the decision.
According to officials from the Burkina Faso government, the event was cancelled because the country needed to focus on more urgent national issues.
A statement from the government disclosed that these urgent matters include economic instability and ongoing security challenges.

Authorities further clarified that the decision had nothing to do with Dlamini or the event organisers.
A government spokesperson described the cancellation as a necessary move aligned with the broader national agenda, stressing the importance of directing efforts toward issues critical to the population’s safety and well-being.
The event, which aimed to promote health and wellness, was expected to attract both local and international participants.
The cancellation surprised many, especially since King of Squats had previously held successful workshops and events in the region.
The announcement sparked mixed reactions on social media.
A section of citizens expressed support for the government’s decision, while others argued that in a resource-constrained environment, it is prudent to channel all available funds and attention toward immediate national security and economic hardships.
