Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has made a series of appointments to key health regulatory institutions in a move aimed at strengthening governance and professional oversight within Kenya’s healthcare sector.
The appointments, published in the Kenya Gazette on July 17, 2026, will see several professionals take up leadership positions in health councils and regulatory bodies for a three-year term.
Among those appointed to the Council of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute are Judith Adhiambo Kobe, Dr. Patriciah Mbogoh, Sylvester Ndori and Abdullahi Siyad Adan.
According to the Gazette notice issued under the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, the four will serve as members of the council with effect from July 17, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) of the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Health appoints the listed individuals to be members of the Council of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute for a period of three years,” the notice states.
Duale also appointed Ahmed Salat Fankey as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council. He will serve alongside newly appointed council members Emily Kirui, Abubakar Jirow, Michael Gillo, Joseph Kilel, James Odera, Halima Gababa, Catherine Kimani, Omar Sigomba, Gertrude Rapongo and Lukas Lokwae Edete.
The appointments were made under the Public Health Officers (Training, Registration and Licensing) Act and are expected to support the council’s mandate of regulating public health professionals and safeguarding standards within the sector.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (3) of the Public Health Officers (Training, Registration and Licensing) Act, the Cabinet Secretary appoints the Non-Executive Chairperson and members of the council for a period of three years,” the Gazette notice reads.
In a separate appointment, Duale named Dr. Charles Jakait Sangalo as a member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, the body responsible for regulating medical and dental practice in the country.
The appointment was made under the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act and takes effect immediately.
“These appointments take effect from 17th July 2026 and will run for a period of three years,” the Gazette states.
The latest appointments come as the Ministry of Health continues implementing reforms aimed at improving healthcare regulation, professional accountability and service delivery under the government’s broader Universal Health Coverage agenda.
Health sector stakeholders are expected to look to the newly appointed officials to provide strategic leadership and strengthen the institutions tasked with maintaining professional standards across Kenya’s healthcare system.
