EACC Conducts Raids On Senior NYS Officials In KES 2 Billion Corruption Investigation

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) today executed a high-profile investigative operation targeting senior officials of the National Youth Service (NYS) and their associates, in connection with a wide-ranging corruption investigation involving over KES 2 billion in alleged embezzled public funds.

Acting on court orders, EACC officers conducted coordinated searches at multiple residences and offices linked to top NYS personnel and their proxies.

Among those named as persons of interest are: Nicholas J. Makokha – Deputy Commandant General, Operations and Logistics, David Muthee Mbogo – Head of Supply Chain Management, Gilgil Paramilitary Academy, Joseph Maina Kagiri – Camp Accountant, Gilgil Paramilitary Academy, Felista Wanjiru Wandugi – Spouse of David Muthee Mbogo, Winfred Cherotich Towett – Spouse of David Muthee Mbogo, Elias Muthee – Brother to David Muthee Mbogo and Director of Marvel Hotel, Naftali Kaberu – Proxy of David Muthee Mbogo, Florence Muthoni Karanja – Wife to Naftali Kaberu.

The operation is part of a broader probe into allegations of conflict of interest and abuse of office by NYS officials who are suspected of trading with the agency through companies in which they had personal interests.

The transactions in question allegedly resulted in payments totaling KES 2 billion over the 2019/2020 to 2024/2025 financial years.

According to EACC, the officials are suspected of manipulating procurement processes, colluding with insiders, and authorizing fictitious contracts in a systematic scheme to defraud the public.

Following the raids, the individuals were escorted to the EACC’s Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi for statement recording.

The Commission confirmed that the operation yielded valuable evidentiary material to support the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, the EACC reiterated its commitment to accountability and justice: Tuangamize Ufisadi, Tuijenge Kenya” — Swahili for “Let’s end corruption and build Kenya.”

The Commission noted that once the investigation is concluded, appropriate legal action will be taken, including possible prosecution of those found culpable and the recovery of any unexplained wealth or proceeds of corruption.

This operation marks a significant step in the EACC’s intensified crackdown on corruption within government institutions, particularly those entrusted with youth empowerment and national development.
