Eric Omondi, Governor Wanga Help Homa Bay Grandmother Who Offered 6 Chickens To Clear Sh245,000 School Fees

Celebrated comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has come to the aid of a struggling grandmother from Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, who attempted to offset her grandchildren’s Sh245,000 school fees debt using six chickens.

The touching story of Consolata Oduya went viral after photos surfaced online showing her arriving at Adiedo Mixed Secondary School with her grandchildren and six chickens her only means of attempting to settle years of accumulated school fees arrears.

Oduya, who has singlehandedly supported her grandchildren through school, said the arrears had built up over four years, making it impossible for her to meet the school’s demands.

Despite the odds, her determination to keep her grandchildren in school moved many Kenyans, including the school principal James Kabarak, who accepted the chickens and issued a receipt worth Sh6,000 a symbolic gesture acknowledging her sacrifice.

The story soon caught the attention of Eric Omondi, known for his charitable work under the “Sisi Kwa Sisi” initiative.

Deeply moved, he launched a public appeal on Instagram asking for help to locate the grandmother.

“Please help me find this mother. If you know her, please DM me or comment with her number. Thank you,” Omondi posted.

The appeal sparked an outpouring of support online, with many netizens praising the comedian for his compassion and swift action.

“I wish we had 10 or 20 people with a heart like Eric Omondi’s. We would truly transform this country,” one follower, Remmy Ouma, commented.

After a short search, Omondi and his team located Oduya in Homa Bay and visited her home.

The comedian later shared a video of the emotional meeting, revealing the grandmother’s struggle and calling on the public to help transform her life.

“She’s been supporting her grandchildren for years and fell into four years of arrears. Let’s come together and change her life,” Omondi said.

The viral story also reached Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who stepped in to secure the educational future of the two students.

In a statement, Governor Wanga announced that both children had been enrolled in the county’s scholarship program, with a pledge to support them through college.

“Every child deserves an education without barriers. We’ve taken them in under our scholarship initiative to ensure their dreams don’t end because of poverty,” said Governor Wanga.

The incident has not only sparked national conversation around access to education but also showcased the power of community, compassion, and collective action in supporting vulnerable families.
