The family of social media influencer Peter Muteti, known as “The Nairobiyan” on X (formerly Twitter), is urgently seeking help in locating him after he was allegedly abducted on Saturday, December 21.
In an interview with Citizen TV, his family shared that Muteti was taken around 9:00 a.m. in Uthiru, Nairobi County, by two armed men who forced him into a Toyota Prado with the registration number KCF 035M.
Muteti’s girlfriend, Mary Wambui, recounted the incident, saying, “He went out for breakfast at about 9:00 a.m. and never came back.
I went downstairs to check on him, and some witnesses told me he had been abducted.”
The family believes the abduction is linked to a controversial post Muteti shared on social media about President William Ruto on Thursday, December 19.
The post, which included an AI-generated image of the president in a casket, sparked backlash among some Kenyan users on X.
Wambui added that after the post, Muteti had noticed suspicious individuals following him and received threats online, prompting him to delete the post.
Christine Kendi, Muteti’s cousin, has appealed to the government to address the matter, urging authorities to follow due process.
“We call on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Police to reveal Peter’s whereabouts.
If he is suspected of wrongdoing, he should be presented in court,” Kendi said.
Kelvin Muteti, Peter’s brother, described how two armed men forced Peter into the vehicle, which also contained two individuals in uniform believed to be police officers.
The vehicle then sped off, leaving the family in distress.
In a separate incident, 25-year-old Billy Mwangi, also known as PsychoHub on X, was reportedly abducted on Sunday, December 22, in Embu.
His family claims that Mwangi was taken by four armed men wearing hoodies outside a barbershop and forced into a double-cabin pick-up truck.
They have filed a report with the Embu Police Station.
The alleged abductions of both Muteti and Mwangi have sparked widespread outrage on social media. User Nyandia Gachago expressed frustration, stating, “It’s really tiring this mess of illegal abductions.”
Activist Boniface Mwangi criticized the actions, saying, “If these young men committed a crime, they should have been arrested and brought to court, not abducted.
These abductions only reinforce the public perception that this government disregards the rule of law.”
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina echoed the concerns, adding, “If you want to charge him, do so, but release him. Stop kidnapping young people for expressing their opinions.”
Despite public outcry, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has denied any involvement by the police in the abductions.
