Police in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, are investigating the alleged killing of a seven-year-old boy by his father following a family dispute at Seguton Centre.
The incident occurred on Saturday at a home, where a domestic conflict reportedly erupted before the 37-year-old man locked his wife outside the house and remained inside with his son, a pupil at Seguton Primary School.
The neighbours heard screams coming from the house and, in an attempt to rescue the child, broke into the residence.
They allegedly found the boy dead, with investigators reporting that his neck had been slit with a sharp object.
The discovery triggered an angry reaction from members of the public, who attacked and seriously assaulted the boy’s father, whom they suspected of being responsible for the killing.
The mob reportedly beat the man until he became unconscious before police officers arrived at the scene.
Police responded to the incident and established that the child had been killed inside the house.
The suspect was found with visible injuries to his head, hands, back and legs following the assault.
Police secured and processed the scene as investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
The injured suspect was taken to Molo Sub-County Hospital, where he was receiving treatment while unconscious.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Molo Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives are investigating both the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death and the assault on his father by members of the public.
And police in Suna East, Migori County, have launched investigations after an unidentified man was lynched by a mob following allegations that he was found inside a resident’s compound in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident occurred at Andingo ‘B’ Village.
Police found the body of an unidentified adult man who had allegedly been beaten to death by members of the public.
A witness told police that the man had been found inside someone’s compound at about 4.30am.
The man was reportedly questioned about his presence in the compound but was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation.
The area has reportedly experienced several incidents of suspected livestock theft, raising suspicion among residents about the man’s presence at the compound.
Police said the circumstances leading to the mob attack were yet to be fully established.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and postmortem examination.
The case has been classified as pending further investigations, as detectives work to establish the identity of the deceased and circumstances surrounding the mob killing.
