Father arrested after 3-year-old son dies from stab wound in Bungoma


Police in Bungoma County arrested a man after his three-year-old son died from injuries sustained in a stabbing incident at their home in Nalondo Market.

According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday after the child’s family informed authorities that the boy had succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate that on Monday at about 9:00 p.m., the suspect was questioning his children over the disappearance of Sh1,000 while holding a knife.

Police say the knife fatally injured his three-year-old son who was lying on a bed at the time.

The child was rushed to Nalondo Model Health Centre, where he was admitted in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Crime scene investigators recovered the blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the incident. Police said the child’s body had a deep cut on the buttocks and bruises on the back.

The body was moved to the mortuary at Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Police described the stabbing as accidental based on preliminary information, but the matter is being investigated as a murder pending the outcome of investigations.

Meanwhile, police in Nyandarua County are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in the Sasumua River.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday after members of the public spotted a body in the river near Sasumua Bridge along the Engineer–Njabini road.

Police visited the scene and found the body of an unidentified man believed to be in his mid-30s lying face down in the river.

Police said mucus was oozing from the deceased’s mouth, and visible bruises were observed on the left side of his face.

The scene was documented before the body was moved to the mortuary at Engineer Sub-County Hospital pending identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
