Father on the run after fatal assault on son aged three in Ramasha, Kisii County


A father is on the run after an attempt to discipline his three-year-old son turned fatal in Ramasha, Kisii County.

The incident happened on May 10 in a village after the father decided to assault his son over unclear reasons.

The boy collapsed and died as the father escaped the scene. Neighbours responded to the scene and rushed the boy to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

By then, the father had escaped the scene fearing the wrath of the locals.

The body of the boy was moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said the hunt for the man was ongoing even as they asked him to surrender for formal grilling and processing.

Elsewhere, two people died following a boat accident in Lamu, at the Indian Ocean in Kiunga on May 9.

The incident left a mother and her child dead, police said of the incident.

The two were later buried as per Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, three people drowned in separate incidents that were reported to police on Sunday alone.

Police said the incidents happened in Tharaka Nithi, Kisumu and Kirinyaga Counties.

The bodies were moved to the mortuaries for autopsies and other procedures.

Drowning incidents linked to flooding have left more than 200 people dead in the past three months. Dozens of other people were displaced in the incidents.

In another incident, a police officer was injured after a gang on a motorcycle hit him in Dandora, Nairobi.

The inspector of police attached to Dandora in the city was among a group that was chasing a gang on a motorcycle on May 10 when the rider hit him. The gang abandoned their motorcycle and escaped the scene.

The officer sustained a fracture on his right tibia and fibula and was admitted in hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the hunt for the suspects in the incident was ongoing.
