On Sunday night, a fire broke out at Kisumu’s Mamboleo Market, close to the bus stage, destroying merchandise of unknown value.
The fire started at a restaurant and then expanded to aluminum buildings in the area. Other businesses near the Kisumu County bus park were at risk from the fire, which broke out just after 9 p.m.
However, local business owners managed to contain the fire before it spread further with the assistance of authorities.

Since the precise cause of the fire is still unknown, there were many worries that it would have caused greater damage.
Residents were seen running from the scene in photos and videos posted by media requesting assistance from onlookers and the county’s emergency services.
Important businesses, such as supermarkets and buses parked a few meters away, were also at danger due to the fire.
Neither the police nor the Kisumu County Government has responded to the incident at the time of publication.
This incident brings to mind a comparable fire that damaged a portion of the county’s Finance and Economic Planning offices in 2020.
Local contractors who were due more than Ksh2 billion by the Kisumu County Government protested the fire.
Later, they demanded answers and attacked the county offices.
Mathews Owili, the deputy governor of Kisumu, dismissed the charges, calling the fire a normal mishap that had nothing to do with the money problems.
