Former State House Chief Of Staff Nzioka Waita Lands Prestigious International Job


Former State House Chief of Staff, Nzioka Waita, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has secured a prestigious international role.

On Wednesday, December 11, Waita announced that he has joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) as the Managing Director of Africa Advisory.

In his statement, Waita expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the institute, emphasizing TBI’s commitment to supporting political leaders in executing their mandates efficiently.

“It is my honor today to announce that I have joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change as Managing Director Africa Advisory,” said Waita.

“I look forward to working alongside a team of like-minded thinkers, doers, and trusted advisors, all focused on helping political leaders leverage technology and good governance for impactful results.”

TBI also welcomed Waita’s appointment, noting that his skills and experience align with the institute’s mission to advise political leaders on strategy, policy, and delivery, all driven by technology.

Before his official appointment, Waita had already been working with TBI as an independent advisor, assisting teams worldwide in shaping policy solutions for global leaders.

Prior to this role, Nzioka Waita served as Kenya’s Chief of Staff during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term.

He had also held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Head of the Public Service, working alongside Joseph Kinyua.

Additionally, he served as Secretary of the President’s Delivery Unit (PDU), overseeing the implementation of key government projects.

An experienced professional, Waita is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 18 years of legal practice, a Certified Public Secretary, and a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Before transitioning into Kenyan politics, Waita spent 14 years at Safaricom PLC, Kenya’s largest telecommunications company, where he was notably the head of corporate affairs for four years.

Waita’s career in law began early, and since October 2023, he has also worked as the Managing Partner at Momentum Africa Partners.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Sheffield and a Master’s (LLM) in IT and Communications Law from Queen Mary University of London.

In February 2022, former President Kenyatta bid farewell to Waita, who had resigned from his role as State House Chief of Staff to run for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 general elections.

During their farewell meeting at State House Nairobi, President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude for Waita’s outstanding service, particularly his leadership in overseeing the implementation of the government’s flagship projects through the PDU.
