A G4S crew commander died after reportedly being caught up in a stampede during a political gathering attended by president Ruto in Kapsabet Township, Nandi County.

David Odhiambo Orata, who was based in Eldoret, died on October 18 after he was reportedly found unconscious along the Rubis-Tiryo Road.

Police said Kenya Red Cross personnel were alerted after four people from the crowd brought Orata to them while he appeared unconscious.

This was as the rally went on.

The emergency responders rushed him to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Orata was reportedly on duty as the officer in charge of alarm response at the G4S Kapsabet station when the incident occurred.

Police officers later visited Samaritan Farewell Home, where his body had been preserved pending a postmortem examination.

The body had no visible injuries.

Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, including the events that led to the reported stampede.

The deceased, identified as Benson Ogaki, was discovered lying outside Wainaina General Shop in the Corner area of Gachie Market.
