Garissa Family Demands Answers After Alleged Abduction Of Kin By Suspected Security Officers

A family in Bula Mzuri village is in distress following the alleged abduction of 35-year-old Mohammed Ahmed Nur by individuals believed to be security officers.

The incident occurred early Friday morning, sending shockwaves through the quiet pastoralist community.

According to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified men attempted to force their way through the front door of Mohammed’s home before jumping over a barbed-wire fence to gain access.

They then reportedly whisked him away in a Toyota Land Cruiser. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The incident happened just a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated that security forces were on high alert due to a spate of militant attacks in northern Kenya and Lamu County.

The family says Mohammed had only recently returned to Garissa after a brief stay elsewhere and was unwell at the time of the incident.

“Jamaa hata hakuwa Garissa siku nyingi. Alikaa hapa siku nne akiwa mfugaji, amekuja akiwa mgonjwa. Kikosi cha serikali kinakuja, kikamchukua na hadi sahii hatujui ako wapi, amefanya makosa gani,” said Sadik Aden, a relative.

Feisal Ismail, a neighbour, questioned the legality of the arrest:

“Amesema hakuna abduction. Watuletee mtu wetu. Kama amefanya makosa, wampeleke kortini basi.”

The family is now demanding that security agencies come forward with information on Mohammed’s whereabouts and, if charges exist, present him in court.

Human rights defenders in Garissa have also raised alarm, condemning what they describe as a growing pattern of enforced disappearances despite government assurances to end the practice.

The case has sparked concern among local leaders and activists, who say such actions erode public trust in law enforcement and put innocent lives at risk.
