Popular content creator Bradley Marongo, better known as Gen Z Goliath, has addressed the growing controversy surrounding a viral video showing him crawling alongside a lioness in Dubai.
In a statement released on Sunday, February 2, Marongo defended himself and clarified that the video was intended solely for entertainment and was not an example of “modern slavery” as some critics have suggested.
“Hello, my fellow Kenyans. I’ve seen the feedback regarding the video of me with the lioness at the zoo, along with the Zam Zam brothers, and I want to clear the air on some of the circulating comments,” Marongo began.
He went on to explain that the footage was meant purely for content creation, emphasizing that the video was not harmful or disrespectful.
“The video was just me having fun and creating content. The Zam Zam brothers, who appeared in the video, have been nothing but kind to me during my time in Dubai.
I understand that some are calling this ‘modern slavery,’ but that is not the case,” Marongo clarified.
The video, which was shot in Dubai, shows Marongo crawling on the ground with a lioness while a group of Arab men, identified as the Zam Zam brothers, cheer him on.
The footage quickly went viral and sparked a wave of criticism, with some social media users interpreting the scene as exploitative and potentially dangerous.
Marongo took the opportunity to defend the Zam Zam brothers, pointing out that they were not the first to produce such content.
“If you check their pages, you’ll see that they’ve worked with other creators in similar situations, and no one has raised these concerns before,” he stated.
He reiterated that his intentions were innocent, noting that the goal was simply to entertain his audience.
“I understand it might seem unusual, but this is part of the creative process that content creators go through.
Sometimes things go well, sometimes they don’t, and we learn from it,” he said.
Marongo assured his fans that there was no malice behind the video and that he was never in any real danger.
Acknowledging the public’s concerns, Marongo also promised to be more mindful in the future about the content he creates.
“I respect your concerns and appreciate your support. Moving forward, I’ll be more thoughtful about the content I share,” he said.
The video, which was posted on February 1, 2025, captured mixed reactions online, with many expressing worry over the potential risks involved in interacting with a wild animal.
Social media user Mudge Rulf criticized the stunt, saying, “It’s shocking that some people don’t understand how dangerous these actions can be.
People should not ignore the risks just for the sake of making money.”
Another commenter, Leah Wendo, voiced her disapproval, stating, “This cannot be considered content creation.
How can anyone compare interacting with a wild animal to human behavior?”
Despite the backlash, Marongo remained firm in his stance that the video was intended solely for entertainment, while also acknowledging the importance of being more considerate in future content.
