Notorious Gen Z thug killed by mob hours after being bailed out of jail by mother

A young Nairobi man infamously known as Brayo, alleged to be part of a growing wave of Gen Z phone snatchers, has died after being attacked by an angry mob just hours after regaining his freedom.

Brayo, described by residents as a notorious city phone thief, reportedly met his death alongside his accomplice Kinyua on Wednesday, March 25, in the Westlands area of Nairobi following a botched robbery attempt.

According to crime-buster Hessy Wa Dandora, who publicized the incident, the duo had just snatched a phone when members of the public caught up with them before they could escape.

What followed was swift mob justice that left both of them dead on the spot.

Hessy revealed that Brayo’s death came barely days after he had been arrested over a similar incident.

In a twist that has sparked heated debate online, the young man’s mother reportedly secured his release from custody, insisting her son was innocent.

She is said to have convinced both authorities and the complainant that Brayo was not a criminal, but rather a humble egg vendor operating in Dandora.

In a move that ultimately saw him walk free, the victim allegedly agreed to withdraw the case after recovering his stolen motorcycle.

Sharing the chilling sequence of events, Hessy Wa Dandora posted the following caption:

“From these photos, #Brayo was arrested last week on Monday evening (23rd March, 2026) together with his friend, #Kinyua wakiwa na piki piki ya wizi… On Wednesday morning wakaenda Kortini #Makadara, mama yake akamtoa akisema kijana wake siyo mwizi, ati anawekelewa kesi ambayo hajafanya… Ati yeye huuza mayai Dandora phs 4(#Elite_court) She convinced the victim to withdraw the case, jamaa akasema yeye amepata mali yake(pikipiki) na hataki kesi tena 🤔🤔. He was released on Wednesday and on Thursday akauawa along Taarifa road akiiba🤔🤔 #FormNiKu_reform.”

The shocking incident has reignited conversations around rising cases of petty crime among Nairobi’s youth, particularly in areas such as Westlands and the larger city centre where phone snatching has become rampant.

Hessy used the incident as a cautionary tale, urging young people to abandon criminal activities and seek honest livelihoods, warning that mob justice remains a brutal reality on the streets.

The deaths of Brayo and Kinyua have also sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online, with some condemning the rise in crime while others questioned the growing trend of mob justice, which continues to claim lives without due process.

As Nairobi grapples with insecurity concerns, the tragic end of the two young men paints a grim picture of how quickly second chances can slip away, and the deadly consequences of returning to crime.
