Former The Real Househelps of Kawangware actor Onyi has received a potential lifeline after Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria offered to help him overcome his current struggles following an emotional appeal for assistance.
Onyi recently attracted attention on social media after sharing his predicament and appealing to musician and former Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, to help him get back on his feet.
The former actor revealed that he had been out of work since 2022, leaving him struggling to provide for his family.
He appealed for an employment opportunity or assistance in establishing a small business that would enable him to earn a sustainable income.
His emotional appeal touched many Kenyans, particularly those who remembered him from his days on the popular Kenyan comedy series, where he entertained audiences with his acting.
The situation also caught Mosiria’s attention, prompting the county official to publicly offer assistance after watching a video showing the actor explaining his predicament.
In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria expressed sadness over Onyi’s circumstances, suggesting that the former actor might need more than financial assistance to overcome his challenges.
“Jameni, nimeona hii video na imenihuzunisha sana,” Mosiria wrote, expressing his concern after watching the footage.
The county official said he wanted to establish whether Onyi needed professional intervention before proceeding with plans to help him start a business.
Mosiria raised concerns about the possibility of the former actor struggling with depression or substance dependency, including alcohol.
However, he did not confirm that Onyi was experiencing any of these challenges.
He maintained that understanding the actor’s circumstances would be an important first step towards determining the most appropriate form of support.
According to Mosiria, the former actor could require psychosocial support, medical attention or rehabilitation services, depending on an assessment of his needs.
He also expressed his willingness to facilitate access to such services should they be necessary, signalling that his offer went beyond simply providing money or helping the actor find employment.

“Onyi, you are not alone. There is still hope, and your life matters,” Mosiria stated, reassuring the former actor that people were willing to stand with him during his difficult moment.
Onyi’s appeal came after Jaguar reportedly stepped in to support singer Marya, who has been recovering from a stroke.
Inspired by the musician’s intervention, the former actor decided to share his own struggles and ask for help as he sought to rebuild his life.
He explained that he had been without a job since 2022 and had found it difficult to regain financial stability.
With a family and children depending on him, Onyi said he was looking for a way to become financially independent rather than simply asking for handouts.
His request for employment or assistance in setting up a small business highlighted the difficulties that entertainers can face when opportunities in the industry become limited.
Although the public often associates actors with fame and a comfortable lifestyle, the realities of working in the entertainment industry can be unpredictable.
Losing regular acting opportunities can leave performers searching for alternative sources of income, especially when they have families to support.
Onyi’s appeal therefore brought renewed attention to the challenges that some former television personalities encounter after stepping away from the limelight.
His situation sparked emotional reactions from Kenyans, with many expressing sympathy for the actor and reflecting on how quickly life can change.
Some social media users remembered him as a talented and entertaining personality on The Real Househelps of Kawangware, expressing sadness that he was now facing difficulties after years of entertaining audiences.
One commenter, Kamau Wa Ngoco, wrote:
“This is what we call rock bottom, I understand what he is going through.”
Another user, Zackary, observed:
“Life can be harsh sometimes, most times.”
Patriarch Charles also indicated that he was willing to help, writing:
“Will reach out to you tomorrow…Onyi lives on Katani….Machakos.”
Meanwhile, Brandon Juma expressed disbelief at the actor’s predicament, saying:
“Ni uchungu sana, he was a very funny guy on the show, what happened, this life.”
The reactions reflected the sympathy many Kenyans felt for the former actor, with some appearing willing to reach out and explore ways of assisting him.
Mosiria’s offer to assist Onyi comes amid previous instances in which the Nairobi County official has used his public platform to draw attention to people facing difficult circumstances.
In May 2026, he became involved in the case of Joyce Onyango, a househelp who had been accused online of being involved in the death of a child she was caring for.
After a postmortem report absolved her, Mosiria gave her an opportunity to explain her side of the story.
The case also attracted public debate about the consequences of making accusations before all the facts are established.
In another case, Mosiria helped a homeless Indian Kenyan woman, Sangita, who was reportedly seriously ill and at risk of losing her leg because of a wound.
He helped her access hospital treatment and shelter.
His latest intervention involving Onyi similarly places the spotlight on the importance of supporting vulnerable people and ensuring that assistance addresses their actual needs.
For Onyi, the immediate priority could be determining what kind of help would enable him to regain stability before pursuing his business ambitions.
It remains unclear whether the former actor has already accessed the assistance offered by Mosiria or whether arrangements for medical care, rehabilitation or business support have been finalised.
Nevertheless, the offer has opened up the possibility of a fresh start for the former television star, whose emotional appeal has reminded Kenyans that behind familiar faces on their screens are people who can also experience financial hardship and personal struggles.
