Government invests billions in Nyamira projects to boost education, housing and water access

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced major government investments in Nyamira County aimed at improving education infrastructure, expanding housing, and enhancing access to clean water.

Speaking during an event attended by William Ruto in Nyamira Town, Kindiki revealed that the government is allocating Sh 1.3 billion to construct student hostels that will accommodate more than 3,000 learners in local colleges and institutions of higher learning.

“The Government is investing Sh 1.3 billion to construct student hostels in Nyamira County to provide decent living spaces for more than 3,000 students,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President noted that the investment is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s health sector workforce by improving training facilities.

“To boost the pool of qualified, skilled and market-ready professionals in the health sector, we are upgrading and equipping medical training institutions and recruiting additional tutors,” he added.

During the visit, President Ruto officially launched the construction of a 580-bed capacity hostel at the Kenya Medical Training College Nyamira campus.

In addition, Kindiki disclosed that Sh 9 billion is being invested under the Affordable Housing Programme in Nyamira County, a move expected to create thousands of jobs, particularly for young people.

“This programme will generate employment and income opportunities for residents, especially the youth,” he said.

The President also commissioned the Nyamira Last Mile Water Project, which will supply clean and safe water to more than 15,000 residents at a cost of Sh 450 million.

“These projects are part of our commitment to improving livelihoods and ensuring access to essential services for all Kenyans,” Kindiki stated.

The initiatives form part of the government’s wider development agenda targeting infrastructure growth, job creation, and improved social services across counties.
