Police in Kitui County are investigating the brutal murder of a 15-year-old Grade 9 pupil whose body was discovered under a baobab tree in Mutha, Mutomo Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Thursday that a child had been found murdered in the Kimuu area.
Police visited the scene at Kyanui Village in Kengo Sublocation, where they found the body of a Grade 9 student at Kimuu Comprehensive School.
Police said the boy was lying beneath a baobab tree with multiple injuries across his body, indicating he had been violently attacked.
According to his mother, the boy went missing on the evening of August 1 after leaving home with his younger brother to visit their cousin, Musyoka Samuel. The two reportedly found the cousin’s house locked and never met him.
The following day, the mother visited the cousin’s home, where his grandmother informed her that he had already returned to Voo, where he works. She later contacted him by phone, but he denied having seen or met the boy.
A search for the missing boy was launched, culminating in the discovery of his body about 1.5 kilometres from the cousin’s homestead.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene before the body was moved to Mutomo Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. No arrests had been announced by Thursday evening.
And police in Kwale County are investigating the discovery of the body of an unidentified man floating in the Indian Ocean near the Kisite-Mpunguti area in Lungalunga Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Thursday to officers from the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) stationed at Shimoni while they were conducting routine marine patrols in the deep sea within their area of responsibility.
KCGS officers, assisted by other rescuers, proceeded to the location where they recovered the body of an unidentified African male adult floating in the water.
Police said the body had no visible external injuries, leading investigators to suspect the deceased may have drowned elsewhere before drifting to the area.
Authorities also noted that no missing person report matching the deceased had been filed before the discovery.
The body was transferred to the Msambweni Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
