High Court Upholds Detention Of Phillip Aroko, Murder Suspect In Kasipul MP Case

The High Court has upheld an earlier directive by a lower court that Phillip Aroko, a suspect in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were, remain in police custody for the full seven-day period granted for investigations.

Aroko had been arraigned at the JKIA court under a miscellaneous application related to the MP’s murder.

The court granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) permission to detain him for seven days to allow completion of the investigation.

On Monday, Aroko appeared before High Court judge Alexander Muteti seeking to withdraw a previously filed application.

He argued that the reliefs he had sought had already been granted when he was presented before the JKIA court on Friday.

The High Court accepted the withdrawal request, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) confirmed that it had complied with the court’s directives issued last week.
