Homa Bay County Chaplain, Pastor Raphael Obego whose memorable prayers filled with complex vocabulary left President Wiliam Ruto and other attendants in stitches during the International Investment Conference in February 2024, has been confirmed dead.
Pastor Obego passed away on Wednesday November 6, 2024, at the age of 56.
President William Ruto was among the loss, paying tribute to the late pastor’s contribution to faith and leadership in the community.
“Obego was a dedicated servant of the Lord and a prayer warrior” said President Ruto.
“He was light-hearted faith leader whose sermons were not only provoking and evocative but also clear and authentic.
His unique style of prayer and preaching touched many and his loss is deeply felt.”
President Ruto also extended his condolences to Pastor Obego’s family and his congregation in Homa Bay County at this difficulty time,” Ruto said.
Pastor Obego was known for his distinct cratory style which often blended humor, deep theological insight and complex vocabulary that captivated audiences.
His prayers during High- profile events, including the February 2024 International investment Conference, left a lasting impression on those who attended including president Ruto.
An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of his death, as confirmed by local authorities.
The community in Homa Bay county, where pastor Obego served for many years, is mourning the loss of a leader who was not only revered for his spiritual guidance but also for his ability to bring joy and lightness to serious occasions.
