House Help Arrested After Stealing Sh 2.2 Million From Employer

A 29-year-old house help, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, has been arrested for orchestrating a daring heist, stealing Sh 2.2 million from her employer’s home.

The arrest was made possible through the concerted efforts of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

The incident took place on March 16, 2025, when the employer left Muhonja at home as she went about her daily errands, unaware of the betrayal that was unfolding.

Hours later, the employer received an alarming phone call from a security guard, who reported that Muhonja was seen leaving the premises with a large carrier bag.

When questioned, Muhonja claimed she was running an errand for her employer.

However, the employer found this explanation suspicious, as no such instructions had been given.

Her concerns grew when she attempted to contact Muhonja, only to find her phone switched off. Racing back home, the employer was horrified to discover that the Sh 2.2 million she had safely kept in her bedroom had disappeared, along with her house help.

An investigation was swiftly launched, and through forensic evidence, detectives were able to track down Muhonja.

The search culminated in her arrest in Malava, Kakamega County.

During interrogation, Muhonja led investigators to several locations where portions of the stolen money were recovered.

In Kapsoi, Vihiga County, detectives found Sh700,000 at her grandmother’s house.

Further investigations took them to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where they uncovered three chain links bought using the stolen funds.

The search continued in Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo area, where detectives seized an additional Sh800,000 from her rented house.

Muhonja is currently in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, where she is undergoing processing ahead of her appearance in court.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the full extent of the theft.
