TikTok’s repost feature allows users to share other people’s videos with their followers, similar to retweeting on Twitter or resharing on Instagram Stories. While this can be a great way to highlight fun or interesting content, not everyone wants their repost activity to be visible. Whether you’re trying to keep your feed clean or maintain a more private presence, TikTok offers options to hide reposts from your profile and your followers’ feeds. Here’s a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to hide your reposts on TikTok:
Repost Feature
When you repost a video on TikTok, it appears in your followers’ For You feed with a yellow “Reposted by [Your Username]” tag. However, the video doesn’t show up on your profile like your original content does. Still, some users may want to prevent others from seeing what they’ve reposted at all—especially if reposts are frequent or made by mistake.
Step 1: Open the TikTok App
Make sure your TikTok app is up to date. Open the app on your mobile device and log into your account if you aren’t already.
Step 2: Go to Your Profile
Tap the Profile icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. This will take you to your TikTok profile page, where you can view your videos, liked content, and account settings.
Step 3: Access Settings and Privacy
- Tap the three lines (☰) or the menu icon in the top right corner of your profile.
- Select Settings and privacy from the dropdown menu.
Step 4: Navigate to Repost Settings
- Inside the Settings and privacy menu, tap on Privacy.
- Scroll down and tap on Repost. This section manages your repost activity.
Step 5: Turn Off the Repost Feature
To stop TikTok from showing your reposts in your followers’ feeds:
- Toggle “Show Reposts on For You” off.
This setting hides your reposts from appearing publicly. While you can still repost videos, they won’t be displayed with your name on other users’ feeds.
Step 6: Manually Undo a Repost (Optional)
If you want to remove a specific repost, follow these steps:
- Find the video you reposted (usually through your inbox notifications or the creator’s page).
- Tap the Share icon (the arrow).
- Select Remove repost. This will delete the repost from your followers’ For You feeds.
Currently, TikTok does not list reposted videos on your public profile, but to maintain even more privacy, you can avoid reposting altogether or be selective about what you share.
