International academic cooperation has taken centre stage during the Madaraka Day 2026 Education Week in Wajir County, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of global education partnerships in driving Kenya’s development agenda.
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said international collaboration in education, research, innovation, and skills development remains a key pillar of Kenya’s foreign policy and a critical tool for enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the global economy.
Speaking during the event, officials noted that stronger partnerships with international institutions can help expand access to quality education, promote research and innovation, and equip young people with skills required in an increasingly interconnected world.
“International academic cooperation is a key pillar of Kenya’s foreign policy. Through global partnerships in education, research, and skills development, we are advancing national development and strengthening Kenya’s competitiveness in the global economy,” the Ministry said.
The State Department for Foreign Affairs is participating in the Madaraka Day Celebrations 2026 Education Week, where it is engaging education stakeholders, students, and members of the local community on the role of foreign policy in supporting education and economic transformation.
According to the Ministry, Kenya’s diplomatic engagements continue to create opportunities for academic exchanges, scholarships, research collaborations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives with institutions across the world.
“Education, innovation, and international cooperation are essential drivers of economic transformation. Our engagement seeks to demonstrate how Kenya’s foreign policy supports these objectives and creates opportunities for learners and institutions,” officials stated.
The week-long education programme has brought together government agencies, education experts, development partners, and community leaders to discuss ways of strengthening the country’s education sector and preparing learners for emerging global opportunities.
Stakeholders at the event also highlighted the need to leverage international partnerships to enhance technical skills, promote innovation, and support youth empowerment as Kenya pursues sustainable economic growth.
The Madaraka Day 2026 celebrations in Wajir County continue to showcase the government’s commitment to linking education, diplomacy, and development as part of broader efforts to build a knowledge-based economy.
