The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into an alleged incident of police brutality in Nandi Hills, Nandi County, following the circulation of a video on social media showing officers assaulting young men who were playing pool.
In a statement issued by IPOA Chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan, the authority said it had taken note of the video, which reportedly captures events that occurred on the night of January 10, 2026, at around 11:50 pm.
The footage appears to show several police officers entering a room where young men were engaged in a pool game before subjecting them to physical assault.
To establish the facts surrounding the incident, IPOA on Friday deployed a Rapid Investigations Team to Nandi Hills town to conduct comprehensive inquiries.
The team is tasked with reconstructing the sequence of events, assessing the conduct of the officers involved and determining culpability, in line with IPOA’s constitutional mandate.

Preliminary findings by the authority indicate that the incident occurred within Nandi Hills town and affected multiple establishments, including bars and hotels.
IPOA said several victims and witnesses have already been identified and contacted as part of the ongoing investigations.
The authority strongly condemned the use of unnecessary and excessive force in policing, urging members of the public to remain calm as investigations proceed.
IPOA reaffirmed its commitment to conducting impartial and independent inquiries aimed at promoting accountability, professionalism and respect for human rights within the National Police Service.
IPOA noted that no formal complaint had been lodged with the authority prior to the circulation of the video online.
It encouraged members of the public to promptly report incidents of police misconduct through official channels to enable timely intervention.
The authority said it would provide further updates once preliminary investigations are concluded.
