Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called on President William Ruto to refrain from firing Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi, following the ongoing controversy over the abduction of Muturi’s son.
Speaking on Saturday, February 2, Khalwale urged the President to resist pressure from those politicizing the abduction incident and to treat it as a deeply personal matter for a concerned father.
In a heartfelt plea, Khalwale addressed the President, encouraging him to put himself in Muturi’s shoes.
“I want to remind you that Justin Muturi’s son was abducted. As a parent, how would you feel if your child was taken away like that? Muturi is simply seeking answers, asking who was behind the abduction of his son.
Yet, some are calling for him to resign or be fired. How can you sack a father who is deeply troubled about his son’s disappearance?” Khalwale stated.
The Senator emphasized that the calls for Muturi’s resignation were misplaced, highlighting the importance of addressing the issue of abductions, rather than attacking the CS.
“As President, your responsibility is to listen to the voices of those who want abductions to end.
You must not take it personally when people blame the government but instead view it as a challenge to stop this menace,” Khalwale urged.
Khalwale concluded his speech by expressing his full support for Muturi and his efforts to find justice for his son, as well as for millions of Kenyans who are demanding an end to abductions.
He also took a jab at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who had called for Muturi’s dismissal.
“I see individuals like Kimani Ichung’wah telling the President to escalate the situation and fire Muturi. No, Muturi is speaking for millions of Kenyans who want abductions to stop,” Khalwale stated.
Ichung’wah, speaking in Embu on Saturday, criticized those who criticize the government’s handling of the issue, saying,
“Those who try to lecture the President, the Deputy President, and other leaders on how to do their jobs, please give us a break.”
Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also weighed in on the matter, urging Muturi to resign.
During a visit to the North Eastern Region, Duale said, “If you’re a Cabinet Secretary and you’re unhappy with how things are going, the best thing you can do is resign.”
On Friday, Muturi himself had once again spoken out against the government, calling on President Ruto to take responsibility and bring an end to the abduction crisis.
“The buck must stop somewhere. Mr. President, it’s time to take action and end these abductions, as you promised,” Muturi declared.
