Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has inspected the ongoing construction of the 60,000-seat Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road in Nairobi, expressing satisfaction with the pace of works and saying the facility is nearing completion.
During the inspection, Kindiki toured the multi-billion-shilling sports complex, interacted with workers on site and commended them for their contribution to one of Kenya’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
The Deputy President described the stadium as a landmark development that will significantly boost sports, youth talent development and Kenya’s capacity to host major international sporting events.
“This magnificent 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City is near ready. It is awesome in size and beautiful to behold,” Kindiki said.
He noted that the project marks a historic milestone, as it is the first international-standard stadium to be built in Kenya since the completion of Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, nearly four decades ago.
According to Kindiki, the speedy progress of the project has been made possible through continuous supervision by personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the implementation of a 24-hour construction schedule, allowing work to proceed around the clock.
“The efficiency in timely completion has been boosted by the supervision of the contractor by Kenya Defence Forces personnel and the adoption of a daily 24-hour work schedule,” he said.

During the visit, the Deputy President greeted construction workers and praised them for their dedication, describing them as nation-builders whose efforts are helping shape Kenya’s future.
“I greeted the workers and praised them for their role in building the nation, literally, with their hands and labour,” he added.
The Talanta Sports City project forms part of the government’s broader plan to modernize sports infrastructure ahead of future international competitions, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to feature modern football and athletics facilities, hospitality areas, media centres, VIP sections, training facilities and other amenities that meet international standards required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.
Kindiki further revealed that the government is simultaneously constructing 31 other stadiums across the country in what he described as the most extensive sports infrastructure development programme since independence.
He said the investment is intended to nurture sporting talent, create employment opportunities, stimulate local economies and provide modern facilities for athletes and communities across Kenya.
The Deputy President also applauded President William Ruto for prioritizing investment in sports infrastructure, saying the projects will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
“Talanta ni Faya sana. Pongezi Rais,” Kindiki said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing the projects on schedule.
The Talanta Sports City is expected to become one of the country’s flagship sporting venues and a key pillar in Kenya’s efforts to position itself as a regional hub for international sporting events.
