He became the Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester on 26 July 1958, and his investiture was held on 1 July 1969 at the Caernarfon Castle. Later on, he took his seat in the House of Lords.

In 1976, he founded the Prince’s Trust, a UK based charity to help develop and improve the lives of young people. 

Military service

Later on, he went into military training in 1989 and in 1971, he earned a Royal Air Force (RAF) aircrew flying badge. After that, he joined the Royal Navy training and after completion served on the County-class destroyer and frigates from 1971 to 1974. 

In addition to this, he also underwent training and became a helicopter pilot at Royal Navy Air Station Yeovilton in 1974. Furthermore, he also operated as a pilot from HMS Hermes, a British light aircraft carrier. 

From February 1976, he served in the Navy as a commander of HMS Bronington, a former Ton-class minesweeper. Most notably, he retired from the military as a commander in 1976.

In 1977, he was appointed colonel-in-chief of the Parachute Regiment. 

Later on, he resumed his official duties. This included representing the Queen in engagements, officiating investitures, attending national occasions among others. 

During his reign as Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester, he received incredible awards and honours for his contribution to the environment, like promoting organic farming, gardening, climate change and architecture.
