Kitui MCA arrested over alleged series of phone thefts in Nairobi CBD

A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kitui County was arrested in connection with a series of alleged mobile phone thefts in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station during an intelligence-led operation along Mfangano Street.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Musyoka had been under investigation over three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026.

According to detectives, CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigations, helping them identify the suspect in connection with the reported incidents.

His arrest has also brought to light an outstanding warrant of arrest in a separate criminal case.

The DCI said Musyoka is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after allegedly failing to attend court following his release on bond by the Makadara Law Courts, where he had been charged with stealing.

The MCA was held in police custody as detectives completed processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by detectives to investigate reported cases of theft in Nairobi’s CBD, where mobile phone theft remains a concern for members of the public.

The DCI reiterated that public officials and other individuals would be held accountable for alleged criminal conduct regardless of their positions in society.
