The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has been named first runners-up in the Service of the Year – Public Large Enterprises category at the Kenya Quality Awards 2026.
The awards, organised by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), recognise institutions that demonstrate commitment to quality, efficiency and excellence in service delivery.
KMTC improved on its 2025 performance, when it was named second runners-up in the same category.
The college said the recognition reflects its continued efforts to improve the quality of training and services offered to students and other stakeholders.
“This recognition reflects our continued commitment to quality training, excellence and improved service delivery,” KMTC said.
The institution added that the award highlights its contribution to developing Kenya’s health workforce while maintaining high standards across its operations.

The recognition comes as the Ministry of Health steps up efforts to strengthen the country’s preparedness to respond to medical emergencies.
Through the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, the Ministry has trained 50 officers drawn from the Ministry and KMTC in the management of major medical incidents.
The training was conducted through a one-week Structured Approach to Medical Major Incidents Train-the-Trainer course in collaboration with the British High Commission in Nairobi.
The programme brought together officers from 39 KMTC campuses, equipping them with practical skills aimed at supporting timely and coordinated responses during major medical emergencies.
Assistant Director of Clinical Services Judy Kabathi urged the newly certified trainers to pass on the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme to other healthcare workers and students.
“The newly certified trainers should ensure that the knowledge gained is shared with health workers and students,” Kabathi said.
KMTC Deputy Director of Academics Professor Nyawira Mwangi welcomed continued partnerships aimed at strengthening emergency care and improving the country’s capacity to respond to major incidents.
The newly trained trainers are expected to cascade the skills to their respective campuses and health facilities, expanding the number of health workers trained in emergency response principles across Kenya.
The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination and preparedness among healthcare professionals while supporting the country’s broader efforts to improve emergency medical services.
