Police in Chogoria, Tharaka-Nithi County, have arrested a 75-year-old man after he allegedly brandished a pistol and fired a live round at officers and auctioneers executing a court order at his residence.
The incident occurred on September 11, 2026, at about 3.20pm in Maara Sub-County.
According to police officers led by the OCS had accompanied Clear Real Auctioneers to provide security during the execution of a court order issued by the Chief Magistrate’s Court Small Claims Court in Meru.
The order, issued on August 24, 2026, in SCCOM Case No. E46 of 2024, authorised the auctioneers to break into the residence and attach proclaimed household items belonging to James Henry Murungi to recover a decretal amount of Sh1,125,085.
Murungi was initially absent from his residence as the auctioneers began breaking open the main door and removing the items.
Murungi later arrived in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and began protesting the auction. He allegedly blocked the lorry that was to transport the attached property.
He then reportedly entered the house and emerged holding a Glock pistol, which he allegedly used to threaten to shoot the police officers and auctioneers.
Reinforcement was called, and the Maara Sub-County Police Commander, the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer and a team of DCI officers responded.
Police said Murungi continued brandishing the firearm and ordering the officers and auctioneers to leave his compound, allegedly calling them thieves.
The officers eventually managed to disarm him. During the process, he allegedly discharged one round of live ammunition in their direction. No injuries were reported.
Police recovered a Glock pistol, serial number PDN 773, five live 9mm rounds and one spent cartridge.
Murungi was arrested and escorted to Chogoria Police Station, where he was placed in custody.
He is being investigated for alleged possession of a firearm whose licence expired on July 4, 2022, obstructing police officers while performing their lawful duties and threatening to kill.
And police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, have arrested a 23-year-old man and recovered a revolver pistol during a night patrol along the Agape-Gikumari Road.
The incident occurred on September 11, 2026, at about 9.03pm.
Police officers were conducting patrols along the road when they encountered a group of young men standing at a road junction in a dark alley.
The officers said the group became aggressive when challenged, prompting them to intervene.
Police arrested one of the men, identified as Alex Kamau Muthoni, 23, and conducted a quick search.
The search led to the recovery of a Weihrauch HW7 eight-shot revolver pistol from his possession.
No ammunition was found on the suspect, according to the report.
Muthoni was escorted to Gatongora Police Station, where the firearm was secured as an exhibit. Police are expected to investigate the circumstances under which he was in possession of the weapon.
