A 60-year-old man was found brutally murdered outside his home in Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County, in an incident that police are investigating.
The deceased, identified as Tobias Onyango Ndere, was discovered lying in a pool of blood outside his house at Kasure Village after police responded to a report made at around 4:05 a.m. on Monday.
Police officers visited the scene where they found the body bearing multiple deep cut wounds to the head and face, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.
According to the deceased’s wife, she returned home from Randung Market at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday but did not find her husband. She told investigators that at around 9:00 p.m., she heard him shouting as he approached the homestead while allegedly intoxicated.
She said her husband was habitually violent when drunk and that, fearing for her safety, she hid at a neighbour’s home to allow him time to calm down, as had happened on previous occasions.
When she later returned home believing the situation had settled, she found her husband lying outside the house with fatal injuries. She alerted members of the public, who notified the police.
Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Homa Bay County Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the killing, and the motive for the murder has not yet been established.
Elsewhere, police have launched investigations into the murder of a 44-year-old man whose body was found with severe head injuries in Rachuonyo East Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Steven Okoth Njira, was found lying face down at Ongoro Village in Kojwach Kamuga Sub-location after the incident was reported to Ringa Police Station on Monday morning.
Officers from Ringa Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo East, visited the scene and established that the victim had sustained two deep cut wounds to the head and bruises on his back.
According to preliminary investigations, Njira, who was reportedly a habitual drinker, was last seen alive by his wife at about 8 p.m. on Sunday.
His wife told investigators she discovered his body at around 5 a.m. on Monday and raised the alarm.
Police processed and documented the scene but did not recover the murder weapon.
The body was moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigators said the motive behind the killing has not yet been established, and inquiries are ongoing.
