Police in Migori County are investigating a murder incident in which a 50-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death before the suspected attacker was killed by an angry mob.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Sakuri village in Kuria East Sub-County.
Police said John Mwita Kimwama, 50, was allegedly attacked and beheaded by Samson Waitacho Mariko, 32.
Police officers rushed to the scene following a report of the incident.
Upon arrival, officers established that Kimwama had allegedly been hacked and his head chopped off during the attack.
Members of the public reportedly confronted Mariko shortly after the incident and subjected him to mob violence, resulting in his death.
The suspect’s house was subsequently set ablaze.
Police officers photographed and documented the scene before the bodies of the two men were removed and taken to Wima Mortuary, where they were preserved pending autopsy.
Detectives have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Meanwhile, police in Machakos County have launched investigations after the decomposed body of an 80-year-old man was found in a thicket in Mwala Sub-County.
The body of Nzioka Muindi, who police said had a history of mental illness, was discovered on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in an area near Wamunyu Market in Kambiti Sub-location, Wamunyu Location.
Officials received information that a decomposing body had been spotted lying in a thicket near an unfinished building..
The body was later removed and taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
And a 72-year-old man died from injuries he allegedly sustained after being assaulted by his two sons during a dispute over land in Bungoma County.
Natwot James Maiywa succumbed to the injuries on Monday morning, about a week after he was allegedly attacked at Ng’ofulo village in Mukuyuni Ward, Bungoma Central Sub-County.
Police said Maiywa was assaulted by his sons on August 30, 2026.
The two are alleged to have attacked their father over a disagreement concerning the sharing of family land.
Police officers who visited the home on Monday found Maiywa lying on his bed with visible injuries on his right hand, left ear and around the neck. He was also suspected to have suffered a fractured left elbow.
Following the assault, Maiywa was taken to Chebukaka Mission Hospital, where he was treated and discharged on August 31.
However, his condition later deteriorated and he died at about 7.30am on Monday.
Police processed the scene before removing the body to the Chebukaka Mission Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault and death, while efforts are underway to arrest the two suspects.
