A 62-year-old man died from injuries he allegedly sustained after being attacked by his three brothers in Suna East, Migori County.
Samuel Ouma Otieno was reportedly assaulted on July 14, 2026, following a family dispute over the sale of a calf.
Otieno was attacked with an axe, panga and stones, sustaining serious injuries to his hands, head and chest.
Members of the public reportedly rescued him and rushed him to Migori County Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
His condition later deteriorated, prompting his referral to Narok County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Police said Otieno succumbed to his injuries on September 7 while undergoing treatment. His family subsequently transferred his body to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary on September 8 for preservation.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had earlier sold a family calf after being tasked to do so by his mother. The sale reportedly angered his brothers, leading to a family meeting.
Although family elders are said to have resolved the dispute, the three brothers were allegedly dissatisfied. Police said they later waylaid Otieno as he returned home and attacked him with crude weapons.
Following the report of his death, the police visited the scene and commenced investigations.
Police said one suspect was arrested on September 11 at about 2:30pm. He was placed in police custody pending arraignment.
The body remains at Migori County Hospital mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
The hunt for the other suspects continued Saturday.
And police in Kakamega South Sub-County have launched investigations into the death of a man who was reportedly assaulted by unknown individuals while attending a funeral.
The deceased, identified as Cleophas Museti, was found dead in his house on September 11, 2026, at Shibunami, Kakamega County.
Museti had been attending a funeral at a home when he was seriously injured by unknown persons.
He was reportedly rushed to Shibuname Clinic, where he was treated and discharged.
However, he was later found dead in his house.
Police officers visited and processed the scene.
The body was moved to Mukumu Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault and subsequent death are ongoing.
Elsewhere, police in Nyamira North Sub-County launched investigations into the death of a 70-year-old man whose body was discovered in a ditch after he failed to return home from his daily errands.
The deceased, identified as Sorana Ongwae, was found in a ditch in Obwari Village, Boisanga 1 Sub-Location, on September 8, 2026, at about 8am.
Ongwae had reportedly left home the previous day, September 7, but did not return in the evening.
His cousin brother reportedly found him in the ditch and rushed him to Nyamira County Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in fair condition.
However, Ongwae died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday, September 9, at about 5am.
Police officers visited the hospital mortuary, where they confirmed that the body was awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police said the deceased’s relative suspected foul play in his death, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
