A 39-year-old man died weeks after he was electrocuted while attempting to fix a television aerial at the rooftop of his rented iron sheet made house in Nairobi.
John Anyaka was electrocuted on July 3, 2026, at about 10pm when the wire mesh aerial he was handling allegedly came into contact with a naked electric cable.
Anyaka was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital while unconscious before being referred to Kenyatta National Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
He succumbed to his injuries on August 8 at about 10am while undergoing treatment.
The incident was reported to Jogoo Police Station on Sunday, police said.
The body was preserved at the mortuary of the hospital pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, a nine-year-old girl died after she was electrocuted by exposed electrical wires at a rental house in Nyangweso Market, Gem, Siaya County.
The deceased was reportedly electrocuted after accidentally touching naked wires that had allegedly been illegally connected to the electricity supply.
The incident occurred at a rental house in Kagilo Sub-Location and was reported to police at about 1pm on Sunday.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the girl had become unconscious after coming into contact with the exposed wires.
A good Samaritan rushed her to Maryroser Private Hospital in Wagai for treatment, as her mother was reportedly away when the incident occurred. However, the girl later succumbed while receiving treatment.
Police arrested a suspect and placed him in custody pending further investigations.
The scene was documented before the body was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
Kenya Power personnel were also notified to take the necessary action regarding the suspected illegal electrical connection.
