A dramatic accident late on Saturday, January 18, left a man fortunate to survive after his vehicle flew off the Nairobi Expressway and landed on the Mlolongo side of the road.
The terrifying incident, which occurred in the late hours of the night, immediately captured the attention of passersby who rushed to his aid.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver was speeding when he lost control of the car, sending it over the edge in a harrowing plunge.
Quick-thinking bystanders pried open the wrecked vehicle’s doors to rescue the man, who was visibly disoriented but managed to stagger out of the car.
“We saw the car go over the edge. It was terrifying,” one witness recalled. “It’s a miracle he survived.”
According to those who helped him, the man appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The strong smell of alcohol raised concerns that impaired driving may have played a significant role in the accident.

“Why were you speeding like that? You’re lucky to be alive,” one of the onlookers remarked.
“You can’t just get drunk and drive, try to take better care of yourself.”
However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether alcohol was indeed a factor, and no official statement has been released regarding the cause of the crash.
This incident brings attention to the rising safety concerns on Kenyan roads, particularly related to reckless and high-speed driving.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the country has witnessed an alarming increase in road accident fatalities.
In a report from September 2024, NTSA revealed that over 3,000 lives had been lost in road accidents from January to August of that year.
Reckless driving, speeding, and poorly maintained vehicles have been highlighted as major contributing factors to the surge in accidents.
Pedestrians have been the hardest-hit group, with fatalities rising by 15 percent compared to the previous year.
The increase in passenger deaths and driver fatalities is also a concerning trend, underlining the urgent need for safer driving practices across the nation.
