Man found dead beside road in Kakamega village


Police in Lugari, Kakamega County, have launched investigations into the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found beside a feeder road near his home.

The deceased, identified as Zacharia Lumunyasi, was found beside the Sipande-Magunga feeder road in Sipande B Village, Mbagara Sub-location, Mautuma Location, on Saturday morning.

Police said Lumunyasi’s body was found about 100 metres from his home, with visible injuries on his face.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased was last seen by his wife at about 6pm on August 21, when he left home and headed to an unknown destination.

He was not seen again until about 6:45am on August 22, when his body was discovered beside the road.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to the Village of Hope Hospital mortuary.

The body is being preserved pending a postmortem examination, which is expected to help establish the exact cause and circumstances of his death.

Detectives have launched investigations to establish what happened to Lumunyasi between the time he left home and when his body was discovered.

And the body of a 31-year-old woman was found floating in the Sinon River in Marakwet East, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Gladys Jepkemoi, was discovered in the river at Segut Sub-location.

The incident was reported to police at about 7:50am on August 22, 2026, by a man identified as David Kosgey.

Police officers visited the scene.

According to family members, Jepkemoi had suffered from epilepsy since childhood.

Police said the body had no visible external injuries, although the exact circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear.

The scene was documented and processed before the body was retrieved from the river and moved to the Kapsowar AIC Mission Hospital mortuary.

A postmortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as investigations into the incident continue.

Meanwhile, police in Homa Bay are investigating the killing of a phone and television repair technician who died after allegedly being stabbed by his wife following a disagreement at his workplace.

The deceased, identified as George Clement Lubembe, succumbed to the injuries on Saturday morning while receiving treatment at St Paul Mission Hospital.

According to police, Lubembe was allegedly stabbed by his wife on Friday, August 21, 2026, near Shivling Supermarket in Homa Bay town.

The couple reportedly disagreed and started fighting at the deceased’s workplace, where he operated a phone and television repair business.

Members of the public intervened and separated the two, but police said the woman allegedly became more agitated and picked a kitchen knife from a nearby business selling chips and chicken.

She allegedly returned to the deceased’s shop and stabbed him on the right side of his back.

Lubembe was rushed to St Paul Mission Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated during the night, forcing his relatives to take him back to the same facility.

He was admitted in serious condition but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.

Police officers who visited the hospital found his body in a temporary holding room. Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the body and established the location of the stab wound.

Investigators also processed both scenes linked to the incident and recovered blood-stained clothes worn by the deceased, his shoes and the kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the attack. The items were preserved as exhibits.

The suspect reportedly fled on Friday night and had not been arrested by the time of reporting.

Lubembe’s body was moved to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives are pursuing the suspect as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal domestic dispute.
