Police in Embu County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found lying on an electrified cable in a tomato farm in Riakanau area, Mwea Sub-County.
The body of the man, identified only as Nzivo, was discovered on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at about 7pm.
Police established that the deceased was lying on an electric cable erected by farmers around their tomato farms to deter hippopotamuses from invading the crops.
The body had no visible physical injuries, leading investigators to suspect that he may have been electrocuted.
The body was removed from the scene and taken to Embu Level 4 Hospital, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a man whose body was found in Litein, Bureti Sub-County, Kericho County, was identified as a mobile phone salesman from Migori County.
The deceased was identified as Victor Otieno Okong’o by his colleague, with whom they worked as salesmen for Mogo Africa, a Nairobi-based mobile phone company.
Okong’o had been staying at Zebra Guest House within Litein Market for about three weeks.
He was reportedly working as a mobile phone hawker in the area at the time of his death.
Police had earlier reported the discovery of an unidentified body and launched efforts to establish the man’s identity.
His colleague positively identified him, providing investigators with details of his employment and movements in Litein.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
And Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers recovered an AK-47 rifle and 93 rounds of ammunition following an exchange of fire in Kositei Location, West Pokot County.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at about 11am during a KDF operation in the area.
The officials recovered an AK-47 rifle alongside 93 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition and four spent cartridges.
The body of a man who was suspected to have been fatally shot during the exchange of fire, was also recovered.
The firearm, live ammunition and spent cartridges were taken by the KDF at Kainuk for use as exhibits.
The deceased’s body was moved to the mortuary at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
KDF are among personnel engaged in operations in the area.
