Man found dead under bridge in Taita Taveta


Police in Taita Taveta County have launched investigations after the body of a man was found dumped beneath a bridge in Mwatate Sub-county.

The body of Christopher Kadari, believed to be about 50 years old, was discovered on Friday morning under a bridge at Singila Village along the Voi–Taveta Highway.

Police visited the area and established that the body had been partly covered with mud. The deceased’s hands had been tied across his chest using a rope, while a deep cut was visible on his right heel.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene before the body was moved to the Moi County Referral Hospital–Voi mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mwatate have taken over the case and are pursuing leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible. Elsewhere, police in Machakos County are investigating the drowning of a 70-year-old man at Masinga Dam in Ndithini Sub-county.

The incident was reported on Friday morning by a local who alerted police after the body of the victim was recovered from the shores of the dam.

Police identified the deceased as Joseph Ndolo Kasyoki, who is said to have drowned on Thursday evening at around 6.45 p.m. while attempting to cross the dam.

According to preliminary investigations, the elderly man slipped into the water and drowned.

A physical examination of the body revealed no visible external injuries.

The body was retrieved from the dam and taken to Daniel Comboni Mission Mortuary in the company of the deceased’s son, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police have classified the incident as a drowning, with investigations continuing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
