Police in Kakamega County are investigating the murder of a 30-year-old man whose body was found outside his family home in Mumias West Sub-county.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Friday morning at around 7:50am.
The victim’s father told police that at around 3am, he heard commotion outside his compound and attempted to open the door but found it locked from the outside.
He said he was warned not to scream. Later, he heard his son crying out in pain as he was being assaulted by unknown attackers.
The father raised the alarm at around 6am. This prompted the neighbours to respond and open the door for the family.
A search around the compound led to the discovery of the body of his son, identified as Michael Opondo. The body was lying about 150 metres from the house.
Police officers also visited the scene. They said the body was found with multiple deep cuts on the head, hands, chest and legs. The injuries are also suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object.
The body was moved to the Butere Sub-County Hospital mortuary. There, it awaits postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Nairobi are investigating the death of an unidentified woman whose body was found trapped inside the Kirichwa River near the University of Nairobi’s (UoN) Chiromo Campus.
The incident was reported on Friday at around 3pm by the officer in charge of security at the UoN Chiromo Campus.
The security officer said that while conducting a routine patrol at around noon, he spotted a human body trapped in the middle of the river.
Police officers from Kileleshwa Police Station responded to the scene. They established that the body belonged to an unknown African adult female.
Police suspect the woman may have drowned, although investigations are still ongoing.
Authorities said the body was already decomposed. They also reported no visible physical injuries at the time it was retrieved from the river.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Nairobi Region processed and documented the scene. The body was moved to the Nairobi City Funeral Home awaiting autopsy and identification.
