Man Losses Sh400,000 While In Prayers After Daytime Burglary In Mariakani, Kilifi


Detectives are investigating claims by a shopkeeper in Mariakani Shopping Centre, Kilifi County that he lost Sh400,000 after suspected thieves broke into his shop as he went for prayers.

The incident happened on Friday August 1 at about 1 pm as the victim said he closed the premises and went for the prayers at a nearby mosque.

He told police he closed the shop and went for the prayers on coming back about an hour later he found it broken into and the cash with three mobile phones and a laptop missing.

Neighbours said they did not witness the incident.

Police visited the scene and announced they had opened an investigation into the same.

Police suspect the thieves had prior information on the said cash in the shop.

Meanwhile, police in Murumba, Kakamega County are investigating a murder incident following a fight between two brothers.

Police said two brothers aged 46 and 35 picked up a fight on July 31 at night over a jerrican of water which turned fatal.

The jerrican belonged to their aged mother who escaped the scene as the brothers went physical.

She told police she came back the following day on August 1 and found the body of Nelson Matayo, 35 lying in a pool of blood.

The body lay at her doorstep and had deep cuts in the head.

The assailant was missing when police arrived at the scene to pick up the body to the mortuary.

Police said they are looking for the assailant to face murder charges.

A number of witnesses were interrogated as part of the probe into the incident.
